Founding Pastor and Georgia native, Bryan James, is a graduate of Pentecostal Theological Seminary where he earned a Master’s Degree in Church Leadership with an emphasis on Missions. He and his wife Elaine moved to California in 2005 to launch Monterey Church. In 2012, Pastor Bryan led Monterey Church through a season of reformation into a more missional model, which included overseeing a new church plant in Northern Virginia (where he currently resides) and establishing a robust partnership with Compassion International to release children from poverty in the name of Jesus. Pastor Bryan and Elaine have four children: Rachel, Sarah, Julia and Samuel. Bryan enjoys running, books, and anything and everything related to FSU football.
Moe was born in Newburyport, MA and grew up in Dunnellon, FL. After high school, Moe spent 21 years serving in the United States Air Force with travels to over 20 countries. While serving, he completed his BS in Computer Information Systems and Master’s in Business Administration. Moe and his family were one of the founding families at our Monterey Virginia location. In fact, Kids Church was held in his basement. Moe felt called to serve in larger capacity at Monterey Church. His focus is on the business operations, discipleship and leadership development. Moe and his wife Wendi (also AF veteran) are the parents of three boys; Payton, Avery, and Calen. In his spare time, Moe enjoys sports, working out, cooking, and spending time with the family.
Jeff has lived in the NOVA area his whole life. The fifth of eight kids, chances are you will run into a brother, sister or parent who are on staff, elders or volunteering at Monterey on any given Sunday. He attended James Madison University and double majored in Journalism and Writing, Rhetoric and Technical Communication and is currently not doing anything related to his degree, but loves his job and loves leading worship at church. He and his wife Miki are expecting their first child in June of 2018. In his spare time he enjoys sleeping, since once their child is born he will never be able to sleep soundly again.
Elaine has always had a passion for kids, which is why she added a second major in Special Education to her first degree in Business Administration from Central Michigan University. Her focus now is using those skills to lead her and our children to know, love and follow Jesus. Elaine's love for children was the catalyst for Monterey's deep and on-going involvement and investment through Compassion International. Compassion exists to work through local churches worldwide to deliver children from poverty in the name of Jesus. Elaine also loves to run, read and study the Bible, listen to podcasts, and spend time with her family.
